David Hockney said that “you can make a drawing of the sunrise at 6am and send it out to people by 7am” when working in the digital medium, and his daily iPad drawings have had a significant influence on my own artistic output over the past few years. It is because of this immediacy, and for the instant responses and critiques from those who received them, that I began to use a free drawing programme on my iPhone. The resulting works are generally produced just using my fingers, and I like the freedom and the abstract forms created with this method. The pared down equipment allows me to spontaneously capture scenes away from the studio, for example when on public transport, in cafes, in urban areas and parks, and when travelling abroad. I have no expectations of how each work will turn out; they are just a glimpse of life and everyday scenes, designed to record a fleeting moment.

During the lockdown I am focusing on my drawing and painting without any distractions. Finger drawing on my iPhone is my favourite medium, as it is instant. The colours can be as vibrant as you want or as subtle as you like. I have created a few digital paintings and they are posted under the Digital Page.

My garden is a drawing of the flowers we planted in our small garden, when they bloomed they gave us such joy and hope.

Mr. Heron seems to greet us everyday when we walk in Hyde Park which lifts our spirt for the day. I am using a free draw App which I have been using for the last 10 years which is not the most updated App but I got to love it. I took me 2 days to complete this drawing. I sent this to my friends with the hope that it will brighten their day with Mr. Heron’s carefree attitude and hopeful gaze.

Inspired by Captain Tom Moore’s achievements raising money for NHS charity in the run-up to his 100th Birthday during this COVID-19 pandemic. I created this painting to celebrate his 100th Birthday and to thank him.

Rankin, British Photographer- this digital portrait was created during a live portrait session on SKY TV portrait artist of the week during the lockdown.

As previously mentioned David Hockney inspired me to start drawing on my phone, and he inspired me once again by showing his work in April on BBC. I hope my colourful work will give people the pleasure at this unprecedented difficult time.
