I have dedicated this exhibition to the people of Burma, and have painted Aung Sang Suu Kyi because she embodies the qualities of gentleness and peace that I found so evocative of the Burmese that I encountered. Aung Sang Suu Kyi is enclosed on either side by black panels, which signify the oppression she faces from the government. Yet even within her limited space she still appears strong and hopeful for her people.
