This beautiful, young village girl is very shy. The sight of her bright red skirt, matching shawl and round red and black basket under her arm inspired this painting. She is portrayed in front of a big lotus pond as, according to legend, a Bodhisativa named Dharmakara promised that, when he attained awakening and became Amitabha Budda, he would create a blissful land to save living beings from suffering. The girl looks so pure and gentle, pondering the chance of entering this blissful land one day. The green lotus pond completments the red and black.
