Praying I & II
These two paintings, seem identical, the mirrored image depict contrasting forms of prayer, the right one silent and contemplative and the other verbal. In the right hand painting the young monk is praying through his heart. In the left painting the forcus is more on the mouth and ears of the monk. The praying here is from the mouth through the hand to the ears, signifying the quiet whispering of prayers and chants that eventually reach the ear of Buddha. In the later work, the innocence of the action by the young monk is reflected in his plump small hand. These young followers of Buddhism are outlined with a golden glow, which enhances the sacred, etheral feel to the pair.
